Henley Round Table has today announced that its 2011 Fireworks display on Saturday night was an outstanding success, with almost certainly the highest attendance in the 38-year history of the event. Huge crowds enjoyed unexpectedly dry and mild conditions at the event, held at Swiss Farm.
“We’re immensely grateful to the people of Henley and surrounding areas for turning out in such huge numbers to support the event,” said Fireworks organiser, Matt Jackson. “Early indications are that the attendance was a record and we had to draft in extra people to help handle the queues on the gate. The hog roast and beer tent both completely sold out – despite our having significantly increased the size of our orders this year.”
The exact amount of funds raised by the event will not be confirmed for a few weeks, as supplier invoices need to be settled and revenue from advance ticket sales has to be collected from various sales outlets around town. But it seems clear that the proceeds of the event will once again be significant – enabling Round Table to continue supporting various local charitable causes.
“Local people will remember that we helped to provide a new minibus for Bishopswood School last year, and we were lucky to be able to have it on display at the entrance to the event on Saturday,” said Jackson. “It was great to be able to give people a tangible example of where their money goes when they attend our events.”
“Our lead sponsors, IBS Office Solutions, have once again been hugely supportive – as have our programme advertisers and companies like Southern Plant Hire who provided goods and services free of charge,” said Round Table Chairman, George Thomas. “A number of people approached us at the event about possibly joining Table – which is great because we need all the help we can get to organise events like the Fireworks and the May Fair. We are always on the lookout for new members, new ideas and new causes to support – so anyone who might be interested in what we do can contact me at chairman@henleyroundtable.com.”
“We’re looking forward to meeting people as we bring Santa’s sleigh to the Late Night Shopping for the first time on December 2nd,” concluded Thomas. “And of course we will be touring Henley with Santa himself from the December 12th to 23rd.”
